My name is Michael Garrett. I was born in Fort Worth, Texas. I have lived in Houston for over 45 years. I am currently retired and spend a great deal of my time advocating for People with Disabilities.
I currently serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Coalition For Barrier Free Living in Houston, Texas.
Though I am currently retired, in my professional career, I worked as an Investment Analyst for over 28 years with 27 of those at J.P. Morgan Chase Bank.
I bring numerous experiences to the board; public relations, collaboration, an awareness of advocacy strategies for cross disabilities, training of staff, and accounting principles.
I am active with the New Faith Church as an Associate Minister. I serve on the New Members Orientation Team and give Leadership to the Disability Ministry. I served as a Board Member for the ‘American Council Of The Blind’ and currently serve as Chairman of ACB’s Thrift Store Board of Directors. I was recently appointed by the Governor to serve as a member of the Board of the State Independent Living Council (SILC) for the State of Texas. Married for over 15 years, my wife, Peggy, and I have a blended family of 5 children, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
I am an avid reader and football is my favorite sport.
