Remember and Celebrate the Contributions of Ed Roberts
BCCIL asks you to remember and celebrate the contributions of Ed Roberts, “the Father of Independent Living” for people with disabilities. Ed started the first Center for Independent Living in Berkley, California for people with disabilities and run by people with disabilities; was appointed by the Governor of California to serve as head of vocational rehabilitation; and fought every day of his adult life until his death for the rights of people with disabilities. Born on January 23, 1939, Ed Roberts became a Civil Rights Leader for People with Disabilities. He died on March 14, 1995 leaving a defining advocacy legacy and many great accomplishments for others to follow.
